Dan McRae is a partner in the Atlanta office of Seyfarth Shaw LLP, a national law firm. Dan leads the Finance Team that handles the development and financing of private and public projects and public/private partnership projects, or P3. Dan has handled finance and investment transactions amounting to billions of dollars for private companies, local authorities, and local governments. Dan was honored by receiving from the national Council of Development Finance Agencies (CDFA) its 2015 Georgia Finance Roundtable Excellence Award for Leadership. He received the only “Bond Counsel of the Year” award from the largest issuer of revenue bonds in the State of Georgia. Mr. McRae was the first practicing attorney to be elected a director of the Georgia Economic Developers Association. He is a recipient of the Rip Wiley Award, GEDA’s highest award for achievement in economic development. “Southern Business & Development” magazine ranked Dan’s firm among the top “Law Firms that Understand Economic Development” in the Southeast, referring to Dan as an “economic development legal guru.” The Financial Times of London recognized Dan’s work in public/private partnerships by conferring a "Commended" ranking as one of the year's most innovative success stories in the area of finance. Mr. McRae has served two tours as the Chair of GEDA’s Public Policy Committee. He has received GEDA’s “Zell Miller Public Policy Leadership Award,” for highest achievement in the field of economic development policy. He is the only person ever to have won both the Rip Wiley and Zell Miller awards. The Atlanta Regional Commission and the Livable Communities Coalition bestowed the “Exceptional Merit for Public Private Partnership” ranking on a project whose financing Mr. McRae handled. Since the Georgia Economic Developers Association began making “Deal of the Year” awards, Mr. McRae’s projects have taken awards in every year. A distribution project Dan McRae handled won the Atlanta Business Chronicle “Best in Atlanta Real Estate” award. Area Development magazine gave the “Silver Shovel” award to another one of his industrial projects. An urban mixed-use project Dan handled won the Urban Land Institute’s Development of Excellence Award. Dan is a faculty member for the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government, which trains members of downtown development authorities. Along with other key economic development partners, Dan sponsors a series of “Sidebar Conferences” each year, that inform both public sector and private sector leaders about local authorities, finance, incentives, and other critical issues in economic development and community development. Mr. McRae served as an officer in the U.S Navy, and was a member of the Local Redevelopment Agency for NAS Atlanta, giving him personal redevelopment experience from the perspective of the local public body.
