Mickie Valente is an economic development consultant with more than 10 years of success designing and implementing economic development programs and effective strategies to restore local communities and support community resiliency. She has coordinated public and private sector stakeholders to develop and implement resilience plans and post-disaster recovery and revitalization strategies for communities throughout North America. She launched her consulting business, Valente Strategic Advisers, LLC, in 2008, after working with Enterprise Florida, where she coordinated the state’s initiatives to recover businesses and local economies following the devastating 2004-2005 hurricane seasons. She has consulted with local, state, federal and private sector leadership in more than a dozen states and in Canada and has served as a subject matter adviser and disaster resiliency instructor for the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO), FEMA, Economic Developers of Alberta and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). She is regularly engaged as an expert consultant by the U.S. Economic Development Administration to coordinate the federal support of on-site economic recovery initiatives. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Georgia and a Master’s in Business Administration from the Florida State University.
