With more than forty years of experience as a government relations and public policy professional at the local, state, and federal levels of government, Richard (Rick ) May is currently a Legislative Consultant to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB). This non-profit, Washington, DC-based entity is dedicated to urging policymakers to reduce the federal government’s unsustainable budget deficits and national debt. Prior to joining CRFB, Rick served for three years as Staff Director of the House Budget Committee under Chairmen Tom Price and Diane Black. Rick is also the Chief Executive Officer of The May Group, LLC.

Rick’s professional career started in the Ohio Senate as a Legislative Assistant and he also had the privilege to serve as the Legislative Director for former Ohio Congressman John Kasich. His other governmental experiences include being the Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration, the Chief Executive Officer of the New Mexico Finance Authority, and the Executive Director of the Ohio Broadcast Educational Media Commission. Rick’s budget and public finance experiences include being a Budget and Tax Analyst to the Republican Leadership in the New Mexico House of Representatives and in the 1990s he served his first tenure as the Staff Director at the House Budget Committee. Rick has the distinction of being one of the few public policy professionals who have played a major role in balancing both the federal budget (Balanced Budget Act of 1997) and a state budget.

His private sector work has included working for two lobbying/law firms in Washington, D.C., as Federal Affairs Counsel for the National Conference of State Legislatures, and being a Manager of Government Relations with Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Rick received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Ohio University.
