IEDC's Annual Conference is already the world's largest gathering of economic developers, and because it's IEDC's 90th anniversary, the 2016 Conference excitement is going to be even bigger. As with all IEDC conferences, you can expect information packed plenary sessions with engaging keynote speakers and dozens of breakout sessions, all about the latest and greatest in the industry.

There will be so much to do at Annual Conference. Here's a snapshot of what you can expect, and this is just day one.


9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.: Tour: University Circle - Uptown - Little Italy $
While the population of University Circle ranks on the lower end of Cleveland's 36 defined Statistical Planning Areas (SPAs), it ranks near the top in importance to the city's economic sector. Tour the recent mixed use developments in Uptown Cleveland, as well as the historic and vibrant Little Italy neighborhood.


12:45 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.: Learning Labs
Hear from a panel of expert speakers during these one-hour sessions. Watch for topic announcements.


2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.: Opening Plenary Session
IEDC's Annual Conference kicks off with welcoming remarks from the host committee chair and an exciting lineup of keynote speakers.


2 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.: Tour: Health Tech Corridor & Regional Transit Authority $
Situated in the heart of Cleveland, a leading biomedical, healthcare and technology region, the Health Tech Corridor(HTC) provides access to everything a business needs to grow and succeed. After touring the HTC, see the The HealthLine bus, which delivered a staggering $114 gained for every dollar spent on its creation and launch.


3:45 p.m. - 5:15 p.m.: Concurrent Sessions

4 p.m. - 6 p.m.: Economic Development Ethics Workshop
By focusing on real-life ethical situations, this session will provide essential instruction on ethics in economic development, and the tools needed to foster an environment of high standards in your organization.


5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.: New Member / Nonmember Reception
Get to know your peers in the profession. This is a great place to begin, as members and nonmembers from across the world attend IEDC's Annual Conference.


6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.: Chairman's Reception
Join IEDC Chair Barry Matherly, CEcD, FM, and your colleagues for an evening of networking and fun in the Economic Development Marketplace (Exhibit Hall). We're celebrating IEDC's 90th anniversary at this reception. You'll want to be there.


9 p.m.: Young Professional and Student Networking Event
Are you a young economic development professional? Come get involved with your fellow professionals, have a good time, and take this opportunity to expand your networking field.

This practitioner-driven course uses the case study method to complement current neighborhood development theory. Participants will learn how to identify the major neighborhood actors, their objectives, and strategies for redevelopment, in addition to understanding the process for creating a strategic economic development plan to meet the neighborhood development goals. Specifically, this course will examine social capital (e.g., linkages, networks, talent, etc.), environmental capital (e.g., stewardship, residual management, etc.) and economic capital (e.g., investment and reinvestment) facing distressed neighborhoods and offer solutions to address local needs.
