Bring a board member or city council member and participate in one of our training programs. Here's one of several great ways they can spend their time during Annual Conference.

Workshop: Building a Rock-Solid Board-CEO Partnership
Sunday, September 25 | 8:30 am - 11:00 am
Price: $25

Economic development organizations that thrive over the long run - both operationally and financially - are always led by a "Strategic Governing Team" consisting of a board of directors that is capable of making the kind of high-impact governing judgments and decisions that capitalize on growth opportunities and a board-savvy CEO working in close partnership with the board. And while a number of factors determine the long-term success of the chief executive of an economic development organization, none is more important than building a close, productive and enduring partnership with a high-impact board.

What you'll learn:

- Tested and true guidance in building and maintaining a close and productive board-CEO relationship
- Significant advances in the rapidly changing field of nonprofit governance
- The three roles that truly board-savvy CEOs must play in building a partnership with the board performance

A light breakfast will be served for workshop attendees.

Chutes and Ladders: The New Rules of the Game for Up Skilling Workers
Sunday, September 25 | 11:30 a.m. - 1:45 p.m.

Join a panel of economic developers, workforce professionals, and manufacturers to learn about Working-Learning and how it can help you retain, expand, and attract companies. The Working-Learning Model provides a framework to build a culture of upskilling -- from career fairs to apprenticeship programs to on-the-job-training. These activities fit into a continuum that builds on each step to ensure a ladder for workers to ascend to the next step of their career - and for companies to find the talent they need.

This session will feature James Reddish, Associate Director of Workforce and Economic Development at the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL), as well as a local team that, since 2013, has been utilizing working learning via a federal grant to grow the advance manufacturing sector in northeast Ohio. Included on the panel will be representatives from Team Northeast Ohio (Team NEO) a regional economic development organization, the Manufacturing Advocacy & Growth Network (MAGNET) an Ohio MEP Affiliate, WIRE-NET, a manufacturing focused economic development group, and Medina County Workforce.

Join us on Sunday, September 25 for a complimentary lunch and an interactive learning session on how supporting upskilling and alternative education in your community can help solve your workforce problems.
