The Cleveland Clinic

The Cleveland Clinic is a multispecialty academic hospital located in Cleveland, Ohio that is owned and operated by the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, an Ohio nonprofit corporation. It is the one of most acclaimed health systems in the country and rated no.1 in a number of services, most notably cardiology.


The Health Tech Corridor & Regional Transit Authority
Date: Sunday, Sept. 25
Time: 2 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Price: $55

Situated in the heart of Cleveland, a leading biomedical, health care and technology region, the Health Tech Corridor (HTC) provides access to everything a business needs to grow and succeed. The HealthLine is Cleveland's first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, serving the Euclid Corridor. It connects the two largest regional employment areas, Downtown and University Circle, and extends to the Louis Stokes Station at Windermere in East Cleveland.


University Circle - Uptown - Little Italy

Tour the 550-acre area known to locals as “The Circle.” It boasts the country's highest density of cultural attractions, including art museums, music halls, the Cleveland Botanical Garden, Case Western Reserve University and its affiliated hospital, and a historic cemetery.




Cuyahoga River including The Flats East Bank Development & Cleveland/Cuyahoga County Port Authority (by boat)

The Flats East Bank - The east bank of the Cuyahoga River was the site of Cleveland's original settlement and the backbone of its heavy-industrial past. On that same spot, a partnership between the Wolstein Group and Fairmount Properties has driven a $750 million waterfront redevelopment with a 23 story office tower, trendy hotel, state of the art fitness club, and a range of local restaurants.

The Cleveland - Cuyahoga County Port Authority - The Port of Cleveland is a bulk freight shipping port at the mouth of the Cuyahoga River on Lake Erie. It is the third-largest port in the Great Lakes and the fourth-largest Great Lakes port by annual tonnage. Most notably, the Port Authority is the first and only port to offer "containerized shipments" direct to Europe and markets beyond.


The Ninth and Euclid Project

Comprised of "The 9", Heinen's Grocery, and the Cuyahoga County Office Complex & Headquarters. After years of vacancy and demolition threats, the former Ameritrust complex has been restored as a hotel, apartments, offices, dining and entertainment venues.


Playhouse Square
Date: Tuesday, Sept. 27
Time: 2:30 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Playhouse Square is the Cleveland Theater District comprised of 5 theaters in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, the largest performing arts center in the United States outside of New York. Constructed in a span of 19 months in the early 1920s, the theaters were subsequently closed down, but were revived through a grassroots effort.

Neighborhood Development Strategies

This practitioner-driven course uses the case study method to complement current neighborhood development theory. Participants will learn how to identify the major neighborhood actors, their objectives, and strategies for redevelopment, in addition to understanding the process for creating a strategic economic development plan to meet the neighborhood development goals. Specifically, this course will examine social capital (e.g., linkages, networks, talent, etc.), environmental capital (e.g., stewardship, residual management, etc.) and economic capital (e.g., investment and reinvestment) facing distressed neighborhoods and offer solutions to address local needs.

- Asset creation, wealth creation, and enterprise development & expansion
- Housing development, real estate speculation, and tax-base stabilization
- Public and private sector role in combating inner city unemployment
- Examining historical and current neighborhood trends
- Performing leakage assessments and gap analyses
