This new program edition will feature four compelling speakers. Each will present in a TED-style format on a topic of their choosing. Hear these inspirational talks, and dynamic speakers.
If Vancouver is an "Island of Green", Then We Are in Big Trouble
 This ED Talk is about the importance of economic developers working on the Green Economy with a view of supporting innovation and local growth while saving the planet.
Bryan is a Director at the City of Vancouver's Economic Commission. In his role he is leading a "green team" that is delivering on several initiatives with respect to the City's Greenest City Action Plan, 100% Renewable Energy Strategy, Digital (Smart City) Strategy and its Economic Action Strategy. These initiatives include a clean-tech demonstration program leveraging municipal assets and infrastructure and supporting the renewal of an inner-city industrial area with circular economy, social innovation, and renewable energy as best-practice themes.  Find the Doers: Expanding Workforce Capacity Through Coalition
This ED Talk will discuss collaborative workforce development that relies on mutual trust, respect and personal relationships. Ashley's strategy requires no money, no publicity, and no ego.
Ashley Cangelosi Llewellyn serves as Development Director for the St. Tammany Economic Development Foundation (STEDF), a parish-wide (county-wide) economic development organization in southeastern Louisiana. Ashley oversees the holistic development of STEDF's programs and strategic partnerships. She leads and enhances business attraction, business retention, site development, and workforce development while coordinating STEDF's outreach to the business community. In 2014, Ashley established an annual Workforce Development Series that engages business, education, nonprofit, and governmental partners in conversations about regional workforce needs and trends. Her success at "creating the table" contributed to the development of industry-driven curriculums at Northshore Technical Community College (NTCC). See full bio.
 Winning the War Against Economic Development and Incentives
This ED Talk will explore the politics and rhetoric used against economic development and how we as professionals can use transparency and facts to combat these attacks.
Chris Lloyd leads the McGuireWoods Consulting infrastructure and economic development team where he specializes in site selection and economic development incentives negotiations. Since helping to start McGuireWoods Consulting in 1998, Chris has worked with dozens of site selection and economic development clients on high profile projects, and he is a member of the Board of Directors for the Site Selectors Guild. He is also a frequent speaker on the politics of economic development and has been active in shaping economic development policy in his home state of Virginia and in communities across the country. The Spoon that Stirs the Coffee: Today's geopolitical convulsion is a bigger global shift than 9/11. Economic development must reinvent itself or wither away.
 This ED Talk will focus on why economic developers today are faced with an urgent choice: whether to fundamentally reform our methods and objectives in order to be responsive to an increasingly complex set of growth and prosperity problems, or to keep chasing jobs and capital expenditures to justify our existence.
Brent Willett, CEcD is Executive Director of the Cultivation Corridor, a cluster-based economic development and innovation acceleration organization focused on growing Central Iowa's agriculture, bioscience and technology sectors via the attraction of investment, jobs and talent to the state. Prior to his role at the Cultivation Corridor, Willett served as President & CEO of the North Iowa Corridor Economic Development Corporation, a regional economic development group in North Central Iowa headquartered in Mason City, Iowa. Preceding his role at the North Iowa Corridor, Willett held leadership positions at the Iowa Economic Development Authority and the Fairfield Economic Development Association and Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce in Fairfield, Iowa. This highly interactive course lets participants work in small teams to help understand the complexity of strategic planning and its challenges. Economic developers must build consensus among board members, stakeholders and the community as a whole, creating a unified vision for the future. Learn techniques to build consensus among stakeholders who represent different values and interests. Also, participants will learn the quantitative techniques used to better understand their community including: location quotients, shift share, input-output and cluster analyses.
