Leadership Summit Early Registration Extended One Week

» Get your registration in before close of business this Friday, November 15, and receive the cheapest registration rate.

The International Economic Development Council's 2014 Leadership Summit will highlight the ways in which economic developers can position themselves and their organizations to succeed in today's rapidly shifting global economy. In addition to sessions offering guidance on expanding FDI, exports, and other international business activity, this year's Leadership Summit will also include an unprecedented amount of professional workshops and leadership development content to help you develop your skills as an economic development leader.

IEDC is Now Accepting Proposals for our Ignite Session at the Leadership Summit

IEDC is accepting proposals for the fifth installment of our popular Ignite IEDC format, where speakers will share the best of what they're currently working on in economic development. Our next Ignite session will take place at the 2014 Leadership Summit in Irvine, CA from February 2-4. To be considered for inclusion in Ignite IEDC V, simply email a 250-word description of your proposed presentation, your biography and complete contact information to proposals@iedconline.org by Friday, December 6, 2013.

What's an IgniteŽ IEDC speech? It's the lightning round of public speaking with:

• 12-15 speakers
• 5 minutes per speaker on any economic development subject you choose...we're serious!
• 90 minutes total
• 20 slides per speaker, automatically advanced every 15 seconds...you better keep up!
• An excited audience of your peers who can't wait to see and hear you

IgniteŽ IEDC will be more than a fun exercise. It will be a highly effective way of testing a new idea, spreading the word on a successful project and/or program, gauging audience reaction to a new way of presenting important information or refining your speaking skills.

For Ignite video footage from last year's Leadership Summit, check out IEDC's YouTube page.

Unlock Strategies to Attract Investment from Asia

Our November webinar will explore the continent of Asia and how it remains one of the top FDI project regions for EDOs to target.

By hearing from our expert speaker and learning best practices from relevant case studies, economic developers will be able to apply the strategies and methods taught during this webinar and tailor it to their community's position in the Asian market.

Free Webinar on Developing Workforce Training Programs in Disaster-Impacted Communities

Date: November 20, 2013
Time: 2:00 - 3:30 pm EST
Cost: Free

On November 20th IEDC will host a webinar on developing workforce training programs in disaster-impacted communities. A major disaster can disrupt market flows and impact local businesses in ways beyond the imagination. Either temporary business closures or permanent business relocations can cause major redundancies for the local workforce as well as discourage new talent from moving into the impacted communities. The situation can also exacerbate difficulties faced by disadvantaged populations.

This webinar will explore how economic developers can work with workforce development organizations to develop and implement new training programs that are based on changing market realities caused by the event. Learn about the process to identify skills to address business needs that help to strengthen the region's recovery and growth prospects. Speakers will present case examples from Joplin, Missouri following their EF-5 tornado and Katrina- impacted communities.

With funding from a grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA), the 2013 Disaster Preparedness and Economic Recovery Webinar Series is produced by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).
