Sarah Bauerle Danzman is an assistant professor at Indiana University’s School of Global and International Studies. Trained as a quantitative political economist, Dr. Bauerle Danzman researches how investment promotion agencies can most effectively catalyze foreign investment for localized, sustainable, and shared development. She collaborates with several international and US-based organizations such as the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA), the World Bank, the Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER), and Smart Incentives to develop data-driven assessment of the activities of economic development agencies, what kinds of promotion and facilitation strategies are most likely to succeed, and the political and bureaucratic challenges such agencies face when crafting and implementing development strategy. Her research especially considers how development agencies can create broad stakeholder coalitions of support, not just from local government officials and firms, but also from citizens and voters. Dr. Bauerle Danzman’s research and commentary has been published in multiple peer-reviewed outlets, policy white papers for development organizations, and in public interest publications such as the Washington Post and the National Interest.
