Matt Wetli, AICP

Principal
Development Strategies
St. Louis, MO

Matt is a Principal at Development Strategies, and has served as a planning and development advisor for nearly 20 years.

Matt has a passion for identifying, visualizing, and acting on opportunities to create great cities, with an emphasis on urban redevelopment and revitalization. His focus has been in understanding the economic, market, physical, and policy conditions that result in vibrant, mixed-use communities. He advocates for a holistic approach in which economic and community development strategies complement physical, real estate, and design-based revitalization efforts.

Matt has managed numerous projects, seeking to find the intersection between what a community wants and what the market will support as a foundation for planning development. His approach is to then test market and design based concepts by assessing their economic and policy implications, and taking the mystery out of these important but misunderstood systems in order to have a meaningful dialogue with communities about the opportunities, challenges, and choices that they face.

Matt keeps an eye toward the future, and is eager to understand ways in which the changing demographic landscape is shaping opportunities, and how investments in people, places, and buildings can enable communities to evolve and achieve their potential as economically thriving and livable places.
