Director, Cultural Development
Greg is Director of Cultural Development, a Division of MDB Insight, one of North America’s largest specialist economic development strategic planning firms specializing in economic development, cultural development and workforce development. Greg brings more than 35 years of experience working in senior leadership positions in the cultural sector as a cultural manager, policy maker, academic and cultural planner. In 2010 he joined MDB Insight to establish a new Cultural Development Division. Greg has completed more than 90 consulting projects internationally including more than 45 cultural plans for cities of all sizes and circumstance across Canada and the United States. Greg completed his PhD in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Waterloo, the first PhD in Canada focused on cultural planning in the context of urban planning, city building and economic development agendas. In 2010, Greg’s book "Rediscovering the Wealth of Places: A Municipal Cultural Planning Handbook for Canadian Communities" was published to international acclaim. He wrote the “Creative City Planning Framework” for the City of Toronto, one of four pillars of the city’s economic development strategy. Most recently he led the development of a cultural plan for Calgary, Canada's third largest city.
