Association of University Research Parks (AURP)
Carol Stewart is Chief Executive Officer of the Association of University Research Parks (AURP) with a mostly North American-based membership that is growing into a robust international network. She is Founder and Immediate Past President of the AURP Canada Chapter chartered in 2007 and celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2017 and board member of AURP board member since 2010. Stewart was the founding director of the David Johnston Research + Technology Park (R+T Park) at the University of Waterloo which received support of $40.2 million in 2002 with matching funding from federal, provincial, region and city level municipalities and the university. The park opened its first building in 2004 and 2018 will celebrate the milestone of 1 million square feet. The R+T Park is responsible for 10% of the 26 Canadian tech parks’ contribution of 4.3 billion annually to the Canadian economy. Prior to managing the Park, Carol split her career between not-for profit and hi-tech in various management roles including education, marketing, project management, and professional services at the Canadian Industrial Innovation Centre (CIIC) and Maplesoft (formerly Waterloo Maple). Stewart also sits on boards and participates in committees for various tech, economic development and charitable initiatives in Waterloo, Ontario.
