Danielle Casey joined the City of Scottsdale in June 2013. She is responsible for the oversight of the Economic Development Department, which includes executing the City’s initiatives related to new business attraction, business retention and expansion, small business and entrepreneurial support, and employment center revitalization. Under her leadership, the Scottsdale Economic Development Department has received three awards of excellence from the International Economic Development Council, status as an Accredited Economic Development Organization, the 2015 ‘Large Community Economic Development Organization of the Year’ award from the Arizona Association for Economic Development, and unanimous Council approval of a Five Year Economic Development Strategic Plan. In less than three years, the department has directly assisted more than 35 companies representing more than 3,000 new jobs in the first 12 months of operation, exceeding $40 million in direct revenue over 5 years to the city.

Prior to joining the City of Scottsdale, Ms. Casey served in various executive roles at the City of Maricopa since June 2005, most recently as the Assistant City Manager. Departments under her oversight included economic development, community services, development services, and City-wide marketing and communications activities. Since the inception of the City of Maricopa, she managed a number of noteworthy tasks in the establishment of the City’s economic development office, such as the creation of an Industrial Development Authority, the creation of the City’s Redevelopment District Area Plan, a City-wide branding initiative and Five Year Economic Development Strategic Plan. Prior to her time in Maricopa, Ms. Casey attained significant experience in the non-profit sector working in fundraising, marketing, and event and membership management.

Ms. Casey received her Bachelor’s Degree from Arizona State University and Masters of Administration from Northern Arizona University, and is a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) as well as a certified Economic Development Finance Professional (EDFP). She is a member of the International Economic Development Council and serves on its Board of Directors, is a member of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council’s (GPEC) Healthcare Leadership Council and is a GPEC Emeritus Ambassador. Ms. Casey is a Past President of Arizona Association for Economic Development, a statewide professional association with more than 480 public and private members. In May 2010, Ms. Casey was the honored recipient of the ‘Economic Developer of the Year – Small Community’ award from the Arizona Association for Economic Development.
