Free Workshop for Disaster Impacted Communities on Small Business Financing Held at Annual Conference

Small Business Financing for Economic Recovery Workshop
Held in conjunction with IEDC's 2013 Annual Conference

Monday, October 7, 2013 | 1:30 - 5:30 pm

Small businesses are the cornerstone of many local economies. We have seen within recent years that both natural and man-made disasters can seriously impact local, regional and national economies. Following a disaster, one of the biggest demands of small businesses is financial support for rebuilding, business continuation and growth. This workshop brings economic developers together to explore tactics to aid small businesses in identifying funding sources and strategies. Interactive opportunities will allow attendees to meet peers in the economic recovery process and create a learning network.

This free workshop is directed at public and private sector representatives that work in economic development. We strongly encourage participation of representatives from economic development organizations, chamber of commerce, economic development planning districts, business councils, and public officials. Attendance at this workshop is by advance registration only.

Register for the workshop. Attendance at this workshop is by advance registration only.

Communities will have the opportunity to receive feedback and recommendations from experienced consultants and practitioners at the Annual Conference for 90 minutes. • Community branding and marketing strategy
• Small business financing strategies
• Strengthening the entrepreneurship ecosystem

The workshop and mentoring sessions are funded in part by the U.S. Commerce Department’s Economic Development Administration. Should you have any questions contact Dana Crater at dcrater@iedconline.org.

IEDC Releases New Reports on Economic Development Potential of Nascent Clean Energy Markets

IEDC is releasing new research on three nascent clean energy markets: electric vehicles, offshore wind energy and net-zero energy homes. These are transformative technologies for the United States that have not been widely deployed, yet their job creation potential is great, alongside the environmental and other benefits they bring. Supported by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the report aims to help economic developers unlock the potential of these industries to grow local wealth, jobs and investment. "Creating the Clean Energy Economy" discusses the sectors' economic development benefits in detail, hurdles to market development and strategies to help overcome these hurdles.

All reports (PDF) are free for both IEDC members and non members.

Hey Southeast! Is Your Organization Seeking Free Advice on Economic Recovery?

• Does your organization service counties in FL, GA, KY, MS, NC, SC or TN?

• Was your organization’s community or region impacted by a disaster between October 2010 and September 2011 but not presidentially declared?

• Is your organization interested in no cost customized assistance in creating an action blueprint and identifying implementation strategies to address economic recovery or disaster preparedness?

If you answered yes to all three questions, please consider completing the call for technical assistance from IEDC and NADO.

IEDC and NADO will be providing disaster recovery, resiliency, and capacity development support in non-presidentially declared counties in Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee at no cost to the recipient organization. Technical assistance will consist of a site visit, peer-to-peer mentoring, and targeted recommendations on economic recovery and resilience from a panel of IEDC and NADO members with expertise on the topic of need. The organization will receive initial feedback and recommendations during the site visit followed by a report with more detailed recommendations, action steps, resources and case studies of communities and regions that have addressed similar needs. In order to select communities and regions to receive assistance, we are conducting a call for technical assistance. If you are interested in receiving technical assistance tailored specifically to your community or region at no cost, please complete the form by Friday, September 13, 2013
