St. Petersburg's New Pier and Innovation District

St. Petersburg's renaissance is internationally renowned, and the city boasts one of the liveliest and most beautiful downtowns in the state of Florida. You'll tour the new $76 million St. Pete Pier, one of the city's most ambitious redevelopment projects in decades, and the Innovation District, anchored by Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital and research facility. Pending her availability, Dr. Jennifer Arnold of TLC's "The Little Couple" will give a tour of the facility and discuss how its initiatives in life science are being coordinated with those in marine science, a discipline for which St. Petersburg is also globally recognized.

First announced in 2015, the construction of Water Street Tampa is well underway. The district's anchor, the new USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and Heart Health Institute, has just opened, Sparkman Wharf, Water Street's first retail showpiece, is transitioning from pop ups to bricks and mortar spaces, and the construction of the nation's first WELL-Certified business and residential district is underway. Join leaders from SPP, the developers of the project, on a walking tour of the district and learn more.

Jabil produces a huge range of products, including appliances, computing hardware, telecommunications equipment, medical devices, and electronics for the automotive, aerospace, industrial, and energy and consumer goods sectors. The worldwide headquarters is being redeveloped to meet with the growing needs of the company and includes the research facility, a new corporate HQ as well as other lines of business. Jabil is a Fortune 500 company and is the largest manufacturer in the US and the third largest in the world.

More than 100 engineers, researchers and technicians work in the renovated building which was provided by the City of St. Petersburg.

From there we will move to the Innovation District, anchored by Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital and research facility, but including the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Florida Institute of Oceanography, as well as many partners.

One side of the Johns Hopkins Research and Education Building is devoted to ground breaking research including:

Training Course: Economic Development Strategic Planning - February 6-7, 2020

This highly interactive course lets participants work in small teams to help understand the complexity of strategic planning and its challenges. Economic developers must build consensus among board members, stakeholders and the community as a whole, creating a unified vision for the future. Learn techniques to build consensus among stakeholders who represent different values and interests. Also, participants will learn the quantitative techniques used to better understand their community including: location quotients, shift share, input-output and cluster analyses.
